The system, developed by Aviation Safety Resources (ASR), a Glen Head, NY-based emergency landing systems company, was awarded Patent No. 7934682 from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The new patent revises and updates the technology from a previous patent, according to a June 8 release. Designed to equip general aviation (GA) aircraft with a pilot-controlled mechanism, the TriChute Safe Landing System would land passengers and aircraft safely in the event of an inflight emergency. ASRʼs Safe Landing System plays a role in a larger overarching avionics framework called Safety Recovery System (SRS), which has been accepted for both national and international review and is in the final stages of approval to receive its own patent.
